Acquisition using funds from the Township of Bernards’ Municipal Open Space Tax.

2001 - 2002
Preparation of Preservation Plan, archeological studies and National Register nomination.

Emergency Stabilization of the Wagon House and Cow Shed. Installation of cribbing and protective fence.

2003 - 2005
English Barn Exterior Restoration Project, including emergency stabilization of English Barn and demolition of the Dairy Barn including framing repairs/reinforcement, new wood shingle roof, clapboard siding, masonry restoration and painting.

2006 - 2014
Farmhouse Restoration and Adaptive Use Project over multiple phases. The first phase of work included new wood shingle roof, framing repairs/reinforcement, partial reconstruction of historic stone foundation wall, restore clapboard siding, window and door restoration, plaster repairs, new HVAC system, new lavatory, new fire-life-safety systems and the installation of a new ADA barrier-free ramp. A 2011 Somerset County Historic Preservation grant provided funding for basement structural support for the living room floor, installation of a stone stoop at the south entry door, insulation of the attic, repair & repainting of all windows, repair of the southern exterior door, installation of a door for the A/C closet, and building sidewalks on the north and south side of the Farm House; as well as complete restoration of the well house, development of a preservation plan for the cow shed; and repair of one of the interior beams in the English Barn. In 2013, Somerset County awarded the Friends an Historic Preservation Grant to stabilize the fireplace in the dining room of the Farm House, install electricity, basic lighting, a security system and an ADA ramp in the English Barn, replace the badly deteriorated roof tarp on the Cow Shed; and install an historic marker.

2010 - 2014
English Barn Interior Restoration/Adaptive Reuse Project, including a grant from the NJ Historic Trust to prepare the interior of the English Barn for public use, including the elevation of two transverse beams that limited use of the west end of the barn (using a portion of the 2011 County Grant), installation of a concrete slab and partial wood floor; and a weather-tight emergency-egress door on the south side of the barn. In 2013, Somerset County awarded the Friends an Historic Preservation Grant which includes funds to install electricity, basic lighting, a security system and an ADA ramp in the English Barn, as well as the work on the Farm House detailed above. In 2013, the Friends also received a matching grant to paint the English Barn and restore the trim.
